Fast and robust femur segmentation from computed tomography images for patient-specific hip fracture risk screening

Osteoporosis is a common bone disease that increases the risk of fracture. Hip-fracture screening methods based on flnite element analysis depend segmented computed tomography (CT) images; however, current femur segmentation require manual delineations large data sets. Here we propose deep neural network for fully automated, accurate, and fast proximal from CT. Evaluation set 1147 femurs with ground truth segmentations demonstrates our method apt hip-fracture screening, bringing us one step closer to clinically viable option at-risk patients susceptibility.
